Lately, there has been a tendency to use TPLO plates with angled compression screws. Two such plates are the BioCurve by Movora and the ARC by Synthes. According to Movora, the advantage the BioCurve offers is compression at the cranial aspect of the osteotomy in addition to compression distally, depending on which screw is used for compression. According to Synthes, the advantage of the ARC plate is that it achieves compression at an angle to the long tibial axis without the need to tip the distal end of the plate cranially.

In a series of three videos, I attempt to describe the problem at hand and offer solutions and ideas for further research regarding the mechanics of these and other similar implants. I call such implants "pivot plates" due to the function of the screws as pivots which cause rotation.
